WHY do we enjoy dancing to the beat of music?
This question hasn't yet received a definitive response from scientists. However, we are aware that the response to rhythmic music is inborn. Even young kids who have never seen a dance try to sway to the beat.
Richard Wallaschek, an Austrian musicologist, claims that music originated as a way to coordinate rhythmic movements, particularly those of a group of people.
There is evidence that both music and well-coordinated movements can activate the brain's pleasure centres.
