WHY are diamonds so expensive?

Diamonds are often referred to as "cut diamonds" because they are shaped and polished by craftsmen in order to maximize their natural shine. The name "diamond" itself comes from the Greek word "adamas," which means "indestructible," and this description is fitting because diamonds are the hardest mineral known to man. They do not wear out or deteriorate over time, making them a valuable and precious gift when used in jewelry. It takes a lot of time and effort to shape and polish diamonds to bring out their natural beauty.
