WHY do we put out fire with water?

 When fighting a fire, the most effective way to extinguish it is by cutting off the oxygen supply. This can be done with substances like water, sand, or foam, which work by covering the burning material and disrupting the chemical reaction. In addition to depriving the fire of oxygen, water also has a high heat capacity and heat of evaporation, which helps cool the burning material and reduce the release of flammable gases.
