WHY do you see colored circles while rubbing your eyes?

It is true that when you press on your eyeball or rub your eyes, you may see colored flashes or patterns. This is because the pressure or rubbing can stimulate the retina, which is the light-sensitive layer at the back of the eye. The retina contains photoreceptor cells called rods and cones, which detect light and send signals to the brain through the optic nerve. When the retina is stimulated by pressure or rubbing, it can send abnormal signals to the brain, which may be perceived as colored flashes or patterns.

It is important to note that while this phenomenon is common and generally harmless, it is not a good idea to rub your eyes excessively or to apply too much pressure to your eyeballs. Doing so can irritate the delicate tissues of the eye and potentially cause more serious problems. If you are experiencing persistent or bothersome flashes of light or other visual disturbances, it is always a good idea to consult a healthcare professional for proper evaluation and treatment.
