WHY does watermelon not sink in water?
Have you ever noticed that a watermelon looks like a ball and yet it doesn't sink? Even though it's much heavier than a ball, you might expect it to sink, but it doesn't. The reason for this lies not in its shape, but in its makeup. Watermelon is mostly water, but its flesh is porous, which means it has a lower density than water. That's why it floats instead of sinking.
